Cornerstone of Hope

Location: Rwanda

In 1994, just 14 short years ago, Rwanda suffered the horrible experience of ethnic cleansing when over 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus were systematically massacred in less than 100 days. The massacre left in its wake thousands of widows, orphans and broken lives. The Church of God was deeply affected by this tragedy and has suffered much loss. One Church of God pastor saw every member of his family slaughtered-he alone was spared.

Corrupt leaders within the church completed the process of destruction for the Church of God in Rwanda. The church was forced to start over.

Bishop Charles Karangwa,
National Overseer,
Bishop Jurgen Rudolph,
Regional Superintendent,
and the Local Pastor
praying over the
cornerstone for the
future National Church
which will contain a
widows/orphans home
and vocational school.

Today the Church of God is growing again. Yet they need our help. While many within the church have suffered great losses, they are determined to reach out to the broken, hurting and hopeless masses left in the wake of this great atrocity. YWEA 2009-Rwanda will focus on helping Rwanda rebuild its ministries.

With your help they will be able to purchase land in Kigali which will be the home of the national church. A church with the seating capacity of 500 will be constructed. It is estimated that Rwanda has over 25 thousand widows and 20 thousand orphans as a result of the genocide. YWEA 2009 will help to construct homes on the property where widows and orphans will live in family units. A vocational training school will also be established to teach trade skills so these hurting, broken people can find jobs.
